Canadian Network of International Reading Association Councils (CNIRAC) is a non-profit organization that connects the Provincial Associations, local reading councils, special interest councils and groups of the International Reading Association in Canada. The purpose CNIRAC is to provide communication and serve as a forum for discussion on Canadian literacy issues.

Since 1956, IRA has been a nonprofit, global network of individuals and institutions committed to worldwide literacy.  More than 70,000 members strong, the Association supports literacy professionals through a wide range of resources, advocacy efforts, volunteerism, and professional development activities.  Our members promote high levels of literacy for all by:

  • Improving the quality of reading instruction
  • Disseminating research and information about reading
  • Encouraging the lifetime reading habit

Nominations for the CNIRAC Service Award are being accepted! Deadline for nominations are November 1, 2012. Details on the criteria, contact and application form are available by following the link: CNIRAC Award.

Everyone is invited to the 2012 Canadian Reception at the 57th Annual IRA Convention. The reception is Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:30pm at the Hilton Chicago Hotel Marquette Room - 3rd Floor. If you wish to donate, please fill out the following form: Canadian Reception Donation Sheet. CNIRAC and C-SIG rely on financial contributions from Canadian reading councils/associations to fund refreshments for The Canadian Reception. CNIRAC and C-SIG are grateful for any financial assistance that you can provide as all donations are directed entirely to the cost of refreshments.
